PewDiePie Joins Crypto Live Streaming Platform, Bringing Blockchain to 93 Million Subscribers

Swedish YouTube star Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, known as PewDiePie to his 93.7 million subscribers, is partnering with the blockchain and crypto content streaming website DLive.

PewDiePie announced he will be producing weekly live streams exclusively on the decentralized, blockchain-based platform, which currently has over three million monthly active users and 35,000 active streamers. DLive promises content creators a much bigger slice of the revenue pie compared to Twitch and YouTube, allowing content creators and viewers to earn rewards in Lino, the native cryptocurrency of the Lino blockchain.

Charles Wayn, the founder and CEO of DLive, aims to build a community of content creators based on fairness and equitable profit sharing. In a letter to DLive visitors, he slams traditional platforms for their corporate controls and greed. According to Wayn,

“Most of us started creating or watching content on YouTube or Twitch. As content creators, we work hard to entertain and bring our ideas to life. We’ve contributed for years and witnessed traditional platforms grow from their infancies into billion-dollar companies. However, what have we received in return? Higher monetization bars, unfair content promotion, and fewer earnings because of increased platform fees.

The mission of DLive is to create a value sharing live streaming platform that empowers creators and viewers through a revolutionary rewards system.

At DLive, we are changing the whole game by putting platform ownership in the hands of the users through blockchain technology. The users of DLive are the ones that are rewarded for their contributions as the platform grows. It doesn’t matter if you are a content creator or viewer, your contributions are valued. Unlike traditional platforms, DLive takes absolutely zero platform cuts from users’ donations and subscriptions. Instead, the economic system has been designed to revolutionize revenue distribution by rewarding the community for their contributions rather than a corporation.”

The countdown is on to PewDiePie’s first live stream on DLive on April 14. The site features a donation pool of rewards points to help support content creators who contribute to the platform.

We want to welcome a new member to the DLive family- @pewdiepie will now be streaming exclusively on DLive. https://t.co/XeQvXXCoOI

He will #SupportCreators by donating up to $50,000 to a maximum of 100 streamers. https://t.co/uDBWnCiBY1
