Donald Trump Asks for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin and XRP Donations As Crypto’s Election Cycle Heats Up
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump is asking for donations in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), XRP and other altcoins as the 2024 US election gets closer
In a new press release, the Trump campaign says it will now be accepting crypto donations for the 2024 election and accuses Democrats of trampling on Americans’ financial freedom with their critical stance on digital assets.
Trump specifically addresses Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts who was previously reported as creating an “anti-crypto army” as a means of restricting Americans’ financial freedom.
“Today, President Trump’s campaign has launched a fundraising page that provides any federally permissible donor the ability to give – through its joint fundraising committees – using any cryptocurrency accepted through the Coinbase Commerce product…
Starting today, people wanting to make federally permissible donations to the Trump campaign with crypto can do so…
Elizabeth Warren said in an attack on cryptocurrency that she was building an ‘anti-crypto army’ to restrict Americans’ right to make their own financial choices. MAGA supporters, now with a new cryptocurrency option, will build a crypto army moving the campaign to victory on November 5th!”
According to Trump’s official campaign website, other crypto assets the Republican nominee will be accepting include Solana (SOL) and meme coin Shiba Inu (SHIB).
Earlier this month, in an attempt to court the crypto vote, Trump, a former critic of crypto assets, declared to a group of supporters who bought his Mugshot Edition non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that he’s “fine” with digital assets.
At the time, Trump also criticized Gary Gensler, the Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), saying that he too, much like current President Joe Biden, is against virtual currencies.
“I’m fine with [crypto]. I want to make sure it’s good and solid and everything else, but I’m good with it. If you like crypto in any form, and it comes in a lot of different forms, if you’re in favor of crypto, you’d better vote for Trump.”
